S2E10 - Translating the Trees with Chloe Garcia Roberts

Dear listeners,
Here at the end of April, on this New Moon, the light is deepening, the petals are falling, and music is buzzing and humming from the branches. This season is so alive with sound, just waiting to be interpreted.
Our guest this week on Voices in the River is writer, poet, and translator Chloe Garcia Roberts. Chloe, in her lyrical way of putting things, describes translation as the practice of doing divination with a dictionary. As she carries meaning from one language to another, or from the spirit world to her original writing, she steps outside of societal structures to channel a fundamental kind of mystery, resisting dogma and letting herself be led by instinct.
Chloe joins me to talk about the difference between religion and spirituality, translation as a spiritual act, and how she taps into the language of trees.

Chloe Garcia Roberts is a poet and translator. Her novels include Fire Eater: A Translator's Theology and a book of poetry, The Reveal, which was published as part of Noemi Press’s Akrilika Series for innovative Latino writing. In addition, her work has appeared in the Yale Review, BOMB, Conjunctions, and the Kenyon Review.
You can find her poetry and works here and a link to her latest work, Fire Eater, here.
